[ə'merɪkəz kʌp], Segeln: bedeutendster Wettbewerb des Hochseesegelns um einen 1851 von Königin Viktoria von Großbritannien gestifteten Pokal, der zunächst »100-Guineas-Cup« genannt wurde; von der amerikanischen Jacht »America« im gleichen Jahr gewonnen, seitdem als America's Cup bezeichnet; von 1870 an vor Newport (Rhode Island) in 23 Wettkämpfen von den Amerikanern gegen Herausforderer aus Großbritannien und Australien erfolgreich verteidigt. 1983 errang die australische Jacht »Australia II« den Titel. Der folgende Wettbewerb wurde Ende 1986/Anfang 1987 vor der australischen Küste bei Fremantle ausgetragen, es gewann die amerikanische Jacht »Stars and Stripes«. 1988 siegte vor der amerikanischen Westküste vor San Diego ein amerikanischer Katamaran (ebenfalls »Stars and Stripes« genannt). 1992 wurde die amerikanische Jacht »America 3« Sieger. 1995 gewann erstmals Neuseeland mit dem Boot »Black Magic«, 1999 wiederholte Neuseeland den Sieg.
